Adventure awaits
More than a Trail run
Tankwa Tented Camp and Zulu Overland has again requested our assistance with the management of bookings for the
accommodation and meal packages. The Tankwa Tented Camp will remain the provider of the camp’s facilities.
MEAL PACK: By purchasing the meal pack, your entire weekend’s worth of meals will be taken care of, allowing you to fully concentrate on your running. Some mouth-watering examples from the planned menu are listed, follow the button below…
Night run
Light up the Tankwa with our 10km Trail Night Run! This is a thrilling adventure under the stars. Glow sticks light up the night with colour and your headlamp will be your guide to the Labyrinth situated on the original Africa Burn site.
RockING Medals
The most unique finisher medal you’ll ever receive. Each year, our medals are rocks hand-painted by the learners of Elands Vlei, a local school in the Karoo. All the runners receives this one-of-a-kind medal, but your participation also help support the education of these amazing kids.
TRA TRA ADVENTURE
Follow the 42km of ancient bushman trail high above the Tra Tra river that connects Tankwa and Cederberg. Through collaboration, the trail was cleared, making this experience even more extraordinary.

ART ROUTE
On the run, you won’t tag peaks, but you will tag artworks hidden in the Karoo. Major attractions include the Sky Labyrinth art installation that marks the waterpoint on the night run and Area 51 that welcomes runners to the second day’s desert routes.
SUNDOWNER
It has become a tradition at the Tankwa Run, at the end of a fantastic day, we make our way up to Sundowner Hill or the remarkable Ship in the Desert. There, we enjoy a sunset picnic with families and friends.
SPONSORS
For the past few years, Tailwind, Rhodes Food Group, Black Diamond and Scarpa have proudly supported the Tankwa Trail Run with race nutrition, headlamps, gear, and various prizes. Stellar Lighting joined the group in 2025 to light up our night run in a spectacular fashion. For the 2026 edition, we will have more goodies to come.
TENTED CAMP
The Tankwa Run is hosted at Stonehenge Tankwa Tented Camp. Here you will have a unique experience. You can take a Bored Walk to Stoney Beach, enjoy windsurfing on the sundowner hill, soak in a hot tub, experience beauty, bonfires and meet new people at the OnverklaarBAR.
TANKWA
Tankwa may not suit everyone, but everyone who comes, truly has a memorable experience.
WHAT TO EXPECT
DUST IN YOUR VEINS
The Tankwa Trail Run is hosted on the original African Burn site in the heart of the Tankwa Karoo. The venue is renowned for its dusty trails, that with some drizzle may lead to muddy trails and river crossings. This event is perfect for those who appreciate the vast beauty and open spaces of the Karoo. What sets the Tankwa Trail Run apart is the artistic installations, the night run, vast open space, and the unique tented accommodation, but most importantly, the spirited participants.
